Join Our Team!
Progressive Machine & Design is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team.
Primary Function and Scope:
Take input from the RFQ, proposal, applications, and sales group and develop the concept into a working machine. Designs range from simple fixtures to multi-station assembly and test equipment. Machines are modeled using 3-D design software, with all fabricated parts detailed; assembly drawings generated and ballooned with complete bill of materials. After release to manufacturing, the equipment is followed through the complete build process including debug and run-offs, answering questions as they arise.
Researches, plans, and designs stations and machines using calculations, mechanical principals, and proven practices to create semi/fully automated assembly and test systems. Activities include, but are not limited to the following:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Researches and analyzes data such as customer request for quote, customer specifications, and PMD’s proposal to develop or determine feasibility of design or application.
- Work within design hour constraints, schedule constraints, and overall machine budget constraints.
- Work in a collaborative environment to make sure the designs developed are the most cost effective and will meet the customer’s requirements.
- Develop/review concepts to confirm the design will meet required performance metrics including cycle time, yield, uptime, CPK and Gage R&R.
- Design mechanisms, stations, machines using 3D modeling software (SolidWorks).
- Works with vendors to obtain competitive quotes for major purchased components.
- Create detailed fabrication drawings for all custom designed parts.
- Create detailed assembly drawings identifying each individual component
- Create a complete Bill of Material for each design/station.
- Release completed designs to Project Management
- Supports fabrication, assembly, debug and machine qualification activities to ensure design conforms to customer requirements and specifications
- Any other task assigned by management within scope of position, federal and state regulations.
- Observe safety procedures including but not limited to wearing proper safety equipment such as eye protection and steel-toe/composite toe shoes.
