Progressive Machine & Design is looking for a Controls Engineer to join our team.
Primary Function and Scope:
Provide controls hardware engineering, software engineering, and leadership to the project team that is delivering turn-key custom automation equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Work with the project team to define the system architecture, design the electrical control system, generate AutoCAD schematics and panel layouts, prepare the bills of materials (BOMs), release hardware design to the shop, support the build of the equipment, design and write the controls system software, debug and commission the equipment. Responsible for electrical and pneumatic hardware design, and software design for custom automation equipment by performing the following duties:
Essential Functions
- Meet with customer and project manager to understand project requirements.
- Design electrical and pneumatic controls designs utilizing AutoCAD Electrical for drawing development.
- Develop a bill of controls materials, seeking cost estimates for purchasing department work with project management to get parts ordered on time.
- Responsible for designing the interconnections of peripheral hardware, such as but not limited to, servo motors, Vision, Robots, leak test systems, LVDTs, data collection systems. These peripheral systems may require knowledge and experience in network communications.
- Work closely with controls build department on the wiring and plumbing of equipment.
- Develop the system software architecture.
- Write the control system software.
- Develop Human to Machine Interface (HMI) programs and integrate with the control system.
- Responsible for integrating and/or programming peripheral hardware and software, such as but not limited to, servo motors, Vision, Robots, leak test systems, LVDTs, data collection systems. These peripheral systems may require knowledge and experience in network communications and protocols.
- Debug the system hardware and software.
- Run off the system with the customer.
- Support the installation of the equipment.
- Debug at customers site if necessary.
- Adhere to established controls standards and procedures.
- Observe safety procedures.
- Any other task assigned by management within scope of position, federal and state regulations.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year College/University in related engineering field.
